Finding Affordable Health Insurance Choices

The high cost of medical care has really increased the need for health insurance now more than ever. Although, general check ups and occasional doctor visits for a minor illness are costly, they are minimal when compared to a real emergency. If you need a lot of medical care, it can actually bankrupt you. You will either have to pay a large sum of money to your health providers, or if you don’t, you can run the risk of having bad credit.

It’s a challenge to find affordable health insurance, especially if you are self employed or have a family that’s not covered on your health plan at work. In addition to this, if you have a pre-existing condition, you are in real trouble because it most likely won’t be covered by most insurance carriers.

A group plan is one of the best ways to get affordable health insurance although this is normally done through an employer. That employer generally pays some or even all of the insurance cost for the employee and the employee can choose to add a spouse or a family member at an additional cost.

But, if you are self employed, these affordable health insurance choices aren’t offered to you, which can present a problem. However, you should be able to find something that is available for small business owners, and self-employed individuals, but it will be at a much higher cost.

A good idea is to check with several insurance companies to see if they offer group coverage for associations. Professional associations are generally eligible for group insurance, so even if you are a sole proprietor, and a member of the association, this may allow you to participate. When looking for affordable health insurance choices, this option may also pay for pre-existing conditions, which can be a huge benefit to anyone.

If you do have to go with an individual plan, affordable health insurance choices will decrease, but you still will have some options. There are ways to reduce health insurance costs you if you look hard at trying to find what they may be.

Take a long hard look at what you realistically must have. Would it be possible to reduce the amount of coverage? How high of a deductible can you afford to pay?

The higher your deductible, the lower your premium. Also, consider your method of payment because it also may allow more health choices that you can afford. Some insurance carriers will give a small discount if you pay the premium quarterly rather than monthly, and some even give discounts if you permit them to make an electronic withdrawal from your checking or savings account.

There are apparently low cost health insurance options out there, in fact, many Americans have already implemented and are beating the rising battle against being uninsured. In addition, more individual and family health insurance options are being brought into the market as the rising number of uninsured Americans increases.
